Foundations

I was shocked to find mold and rotten wood under the house! I have been remodeling a house for my grandmother to get it ready to sell. While re-plumbing the antiquated water lines and drains, I tore up the flooring and discovered a drainage problem under the house. As a result of improper planning when the house was built, whenever it rained, pools of stagnant water gathered, and mold flourished under the flooring.
As I considered the nasty surprise under the house, God turned my mind to the building of His church, particularly for the Great River People of Cambodia, and the importance of building a proper foundation in Jesus among them. What good is a house if it looks new on the outside and has a faulty foundation? A loving relationship with Jesus should be the foundation upon which all else is built.
How often have our own lives resembled whitewashed sepulchers? It’s easy to focus on forms and lists, but Jesus is after our hearts. Hebrews 11 says that Abraham looked in faith toward a city which had foundations built by God—foundations free from moldy underlayment and designed to last for eternity! May we all be “rooted and grounded in love!” We are truly humbled to work together with you as we prepare to lay a strong foundation in Jesus among the Great River People.
