Our New House

“Hey Robbie! That house looks empty, and it’s nice, too! It also has large trees around it! Our kids will love it!”

Robbie, our teammate and house-hunting chauffeur, parked the truck while I jumped out and began scanning the neighbors’ houses for signs of life. One neighbor named Lamom gave us the owners’ phone number. “They did put the house up for rent once,” he said. “They were asking about 20,000 baht ($660 USD) per month, which, by the way, is the going rate in this village. But then they changed their minds and took the sign down.”

That was not good news for us. Even if the owners could be talked into renting, $660 per month was way out of our price range. But we remembered that God could move hearts and open doors, even to this house, if this was where He wanted us. So we prayed, and I asked Sheany Pung, one of our Peace Music Academy teachers, to call the owners on our behalf. She did, and a miracle happened. Not only were they willing to rent to us, they also immediately dropped the price to $400. When we told them we still couldn’t afford the rent, they dropped it again to $320 per month, plus a community fee.

Amazed, we accepted their offer and moved in, wondering why God had opened this house for us. Now, two months later, we are beginning to see God’s purposes as we get to know our neighbors. In the coming months, I want to introduce you to a few of them—people whom God has clearly been wooing for years, even decades!
