Prayerful Perspective

Providence or coincidence? Blessed or lucky? Miracle or chance? Answer to prayer or a fluke? God’s will or karma? How we perceive things depends on our perspective.

When I became a Christian in 1998, my new love for the Lord was a turnoff to my three brothers. I was blinded with an urgent sense that we were all on a sinking ship, and Jesus was the only lifeboat, so I really pushed my brothers. While the lifeboat analogy is real, and my motive was sincere, my methods were wrong. In my desperation to share Jesus, I only came across as radical and judgmental. My perspective has changed since then (and I hope my character, too, by God’s grace!).

Looking at life with a heavenly perspective, I see providence, blessings, miracles and answers to prayer. In order to keep this perspective, I spend a lot of time on my knees for family, team members, friends and the unreached of the world. It means allowing God to provide sharing opportunities and wisdom, and for me to know when to be silent. It means that I continue to pray, despite the reactions of others and their different perspectives. It means being diligent and earnest in my prayers, so He is the only One exposed to my urgency or desperation!

And then I must believe (Mark 11:24), trust (2 Tim. 1:12), work (John 9:4) and leave the outcome to God.

As we are on the brink of Jesus’ return, I am reminded that every day I have choices to make regarding my perspective. My prayer is that each of us will choose the Lord this day as the Author and Finisher of our faith, allowing Him to live through us so we can see His perspective.
