Spreading Good News

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise” (Prov. 6:6).

“Oh no!” I shouted. There they were, swarming up the legs of our dining table as we sat there eating. One of those pesky little creatures had discovered that there was food to be had and had blazed a trail for her companions.

I know there will always be challenges with ants in the tropics, but I don’t like to fight them for each bite of food I take. We had discovered how to discourage them by blocking their trails with baby powder. Up until now we had only discovered an occasional ant on the table, and we had quickly removed them. Now they were swarming up one table leg and advancing rapidly toward our plates.
We snatched up our serving dishes and plates. These tiny creatures are fast. Leave one drop of liquid from a fruit or vegetable, and within 30 seconds they will begin to gather. Within a minute there will be a tiny seething pile of ants where the drop had been. The fridge and our two ant-proofed side tables are the only safe places to deposit food. Now we would have to ant proof our dining table as well.

Gathering four bowls large enough to accommodate the legs of the table, we wiped all the ants from the table—top, bottom and legs, and the floor around each leg. We placed a bowl under each leg and poured in about half an inch of baby powder. Ants cannot cross this barrier.

When these little creatures find a source of food, they are eager to share the news with others. The speed with which they recruit is astounding.

We have good news to share, too! How quick and persistent have you been in sharing the Bread of Life? Hurry before someone wipes away this opportunity. Go! Tell others!
