Two More for Jesus

Ming Nee
This past fall, we had the privilege of witnessing two more baptisms at our project. Our first group has grown from 3 to about 15. These are people who started with no church background and no knowledge of the Bible whatsoever. How fulfilling it has been to see them grow in their walk with God!

One of the baptismal candidates was our dear Ming Nee. I remember the first time we met Ming Nee. We had been asked to come and look at her four-year-old granddaughter’s health condition. We had only been in Southeast Asia a few weeks, and when I saw their impoverished living conditions I was overwhelmed. A dirt floor downstairs and rickety boards with plenty of holes upstairs. The building was the size of a bedroom. There were chickens running around on the dirt floor and a wooden platform for sitting.

Ming Nee’s granddaughter had an issue that ended up requiring surgery, which we wrote about in past issues. Since the successful surgery two years ago, Ming Nee has attended church with us every Sabbath. She has the warmest smile and the kindest heart. She is such a joy to be around, and we are so blessed to know her.

In this poverty-stricken country, we are used to people asking us for things. In fact, it has been quite overwhelming, and at times we have wondered if anyone truly wants to be our friend just for us. Ming Nee is one of the very few people who has never asked us for anything. Despite her poverty, she always has some gift of fruit or a snack to give us.

Ming Nee has also become our greatest evangelist. She is very shy, but she doesn’t let that get in the way of sharing Jesus. Her community recognizes her upright character, and people listen when she shares her faith. Already, four people have come to our group through her, two of whom now attend faithfully.

Eva
Our other baptismal candidate, Eva, is married to Navee, a convert from Islam. Eva is the first Muslim lady in our area to be baptized. You could see the joy in Eva’s face as she committed her life to Jesus. Eva has been watching Navee grow over the years since he started to follow Jesus. She was very hesitant and held back for a long time, but recently she has been very open about her belief in Jesus. She has also been attending church faithfully along with their three precious children.

We are so thankful to have the privilege of knowing these two ladies and being part of their lives. How rewarding our work here in Cambodia has been. Please continue to pray with us for the rest of our faithful group. We hope to see many more baptisms in the near future.
