Wrought By Prayer

Widespread homelessness, devastation and destruction in the billions of dollars. This is not because of war but the result of hurricane winds and rain. As I write this article, Hurricane Irma is still wreaking havoc in Florida despite the fact that it has been downgraded to a category-one storm. And Irma certainly wasn’t the only devastating storm this year. In Sierra Leone more than 1,000 people were killed by a mudslide after days of rain. In China nearly 15 million people are affected by flooding.

What is God trying to tell us by allowing these kinds of disasters? Is He trying to wake us up to the fact that He is coming soon, and there are lost people still to be saved? More and more, my wife and I feel a personal urgency to share the news of our soon-coming Savior with the lost.

As you are probably aware, 80 percent of unreached people groups are located in the 10/40 window. Crisis is bringing many of these people here to the U.S. as refugees. They need to be reached, too. We need to reach out wherever we live.

The 10/40 window holds many challenges for the spreading of the gospel, and so does America. It is far too big a task for any of us to do on our own. We must have Holy Spirit power. A line from a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson I learned in high school rings in my ears: “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.”

Thank you for your prayers. Keep praying. Those prayers are essential to us as we seek to support our front-line AFM missionaries who are sharing Jesus with the unreached.
