Airport Conversation

“Would you like to sit down for a while?” I asked a young African lady as she approached the only vacant seat next to me in a very crowded airport.
“Thanks very much. I could do with a rest before my flight leaves.”
“So, are you making your way home from the conference as well?” I asked her.
“What conference is that?” she replied.
“The Adventist Conference at Lake Balaton.” I had been attending the Trans-European Division’s (TED) Great Commission of the Laity Festival in Hungary.
“No, I am on my way back from attending summer classes here that were organized by the university I attend. So, you’re a Seventh-day Adventist? What kind of conference were you having?”
I briefly explained what the conference was about. She then shared some of her background. “I am from a Catholic background, and my husband was raised a Jehovah’s Witness. Since we married, we have visited the local Catholic Church, the Anglican Church and the JW fellowship, but we aren’t really satisfied with any of them. We are still searching for a spiritual home.”
I felt impressed to share some of my own experiences and Pauline’s in an attempt to show her how real, loving and caring God is and how much He wants a relationship with us.
“My grandmother and one of my aunts in Kenya are Seventh-day Adventists,” she said. “My aunt eventually accepted Adventism after a long period of opposition. Now she loves her faith and has committed many scripture passages to memory.” She was clearly impressed by her aunt’s faith journey.
I don’t know how much of an influence our two-hour conversation will have on her, but I pray that she and her husband will continue their search and find their spiritual home among our church members in London, close to where they live. Will you keep them in your prayers, too? Please also pray that God will use the attendees at the TED meeting to reach the people of Europe with the love of Jesus and His offer of eternal life.
