About Summer Training

1.  How long is it?

  • The length of training depends on what training you are interested in.  Here are a few options:
  • 3-5 days. AFM trainers do provide training seminars for church when requested and as time allows.
  • 5-10 days: Individuals may sign up for modules that are offered during summer training. If you are interested in this option please check here.
  • 4 Weeks: Preparation for short term cross cultural support staff. This is for you if you are going to serve in a cross-cultural context in support of career missionaries.
  • 12 weeks: Preparation for cross-cultural disciple making career missionaries.

2.  When is it?

  • Career missionary training is offered from the last week of May to the third week of August.
  • Short-term volunteer training (SM/STM) training is offered from the third week of July to the third week of August.
  • Seminars are arranged on a first come first served basis. If you are interested, please contact us soon because our calendars fill up quickly.

3.  Can anyone come?
You do not need to be an AFM missionary to attend training events. The only requirement is the successful completion of application/registration process.

4.  How much does it cost?

The cost of training events are as follows:

4-Week Student Missions (SM) Training
▸ Tuition: $1000
▸ Materials: $300-$400
▸ Room: See Accommodations if you choose to stay at the AFM training center.
▸ Board: this is your responsibility and the cost is really up to you.

12-Week Career Missions (CM) Training
▸ Tuition: $150 per week per individual – Total $1800 per person.
▸ Materials: $300-$400
▸ Room: See Accommodations if you choose to stay at the AFM training center.
▸ Board: this is your responsibility and well the cost is really up to you.

5.  What is the Crucible?
The crucible is a simulation of frontier mission service designed to teach life lessons critical to cross cultural success through immersion. It is designed to be spiritually enriching and profoundly challenging mentally, physically and emotionally. It’s not for everyone. All we need is a few good men and women.

6.  Do you offer training events for churches?
We offer three services to churches. Weekend missions promotion events, training events and consulting services.

7.  How much does church training cost?

Weekend Missions Promotion Events
▸ Costs include travel, room and board. A donation to AFM to help cover operational costs is appreciated.

Training Events
▸ Costs include travel, room and board. Registration fees are arranged on a case by case basis.

Consulting
▸ $1000 per day per trainer.

Consulting services are offered to churches interested in becoming centers of influence. Services include:
▸ Mission, Vision Value Clarification
▸ Strategic Planning
▸ Team Building
▸ Conflict mediation

8.  How do we arrange to have someone come to our church?
You may either fill out an interest form online (coming soon), call the AFM training department at 269-208-0292, or send an email request to the AFM training director.

9.  Do you have Bible studies that we can use?
Let us know what you need and we will share what we have.

10. What do you have for people who can’t come to training or request a training event?
We are developing an e-learning center that will allow for distance learning. Please check back for updates.

11. Are you willing to consult over the phone?
We are happy to talk with you and serve you to the best of our ability. If you are interested in a consulting relationship, than consulting fees apply.
