Since arriving in Croatia, we have been rotating between the three churches here in the capital. And since we know we will not have a church to attend in our target area, we occasionally have Sabbath worship at home or out in nature. Worshipping at home is also relaxing for our minds, as we do not have to try to figure out what people are saying.
This particular Sabbath, we found ourselves at Crkva Zagreb 1 (Zagreb Church 1). I was in the small playroom with Anastasia when a man popped his head in to ask me, “Does your family live in Dubrovnik?”
“Not at this time,” I replied. “We will be here for one more year to finish our language courses, then we will head in that direction.”
The gentleman went on to explain that a woman from Dubrovnik was visiting the church that Sabbath. She had accepted Adventism in 2020, and this was her first time being in a Protestant church with other believers.
Teddy and I were ecstatic to meet her after the service. Between her limited English, our limited Croatian and a little help from the man, we were able to communicate.
The lady has been alone on her spiritual journey for six years, watching programs online, but now she knows our family is on the way and cannot wait for us to come. We have since been in contact with her and are planning to try to visit her a couple of times before our big move. She has shared that she has two, possibly four, women who would be willing to meet with us for Bible studies and fellowship. God has clearly begun the work!
Since accepting the call to Croatia, I have always had this idea in my head that someone was praying for people to come and share with them. This idea has kept me focused. Even if it were just for one person, we were determined to go.
Language learning is going well—Slava Bogu! (Praise God!)—but we still have a way to go. Our interaction with this lady has renewed our drive to learn this language.
Thank you for all your prayers and support. It is amazing to see God moving and directing. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, the Author and Finisher of it all.
