“Chris, Mr. B saw me walking Chloe as he drove into the neighborhood today. He parked and walked around the other way, coming toward us, met us on our walk and gave Chloe some dog biscuits”, Erin, my wife, said.
“Wow!” I said. “Mr. B never walks around the block.”
“I know. He came just to give Chloe some treats.” Mr. B loves Chloe! He also said that he was trying to eat healthier. “I asked him if he likes sourdough bread, and he said that he does. I made some loaves; would you take him some?”
“Absolutely!”
Unfortunately, it was too late for me to take the bread that day, so I planned on taking it to him the next day. However, circumstances prevented me from delivering it that day as well.
While working two days later, Erin stopped by my office and reminded me to take the bread over to Mr. B. I did not want to forget, so I stopped what I was doing, grabbed the bread and headed over to see if he was home. I knocked on the door, but did not expect him to answer. He usually ignores people coming to his door. Instead, he opened it up and invited me inside.
We have been praying for Mr. B for the past three and a half years. A couple of weeks ago, however, I determined to be more purposeful in my prayers for him. After offering him the bread, Erin asked a small group that we are a part of to pray about me taking the bread to him.
As I stepped inside, I knew that God was already at work. In three and a half years, he and I had always talked outside his home; he had never invited me inside.
“I think we need to be careful with the food we choose to eat,” Mr. B said. “I believe that we are living in the end times.”
Where was this conversation going, I wondered.
We stood in the entryway for about 10 minutes, then he asked if I wanted to sit down. I again started praying for God to lead our conversation. What began as a quick visit to deliver bread turned into a two-hour conversation with some extremely hard questions and deep spiritual topics.
Please join us in praying for Mr. B. I am seeking the Lord’s guidance in how to navigate our interactions and conversations. I need to be able to allow Jesus to speak through me and give me ears to hear what Mr. B is truly saying.
Thank you for your continued prayers and financial support.
