Encountering the Dark Side

“You heard a demon speak?” I exclaimed as Ricardo told me about the season of prayer our team had had with Mee Mali and her son earlier that day.

“Yeah, we heard it speak a couple of times,” he replied. “We will be fasting and going back to pray again tomorrow.”

I assured him I would fast and pray and join the team as well. Excitement and trepidation coursed through me. I knew this was serious business, and I needed to pray earnestly.

We were not able to pray with Mee Mali the next day because her church went to pray with her instead, so we went back on Wednesday. Our prayer time with her seemed to go well, and there was no more demonic activity.

The next day, Mee Mali again requested that we pray for her and her son. Her son is mentally challenged, and his erratic behavior and sometimes violent outbursts are a constant source of stress and anxiety for Mee Mali and her employees. Mee Mali owns a Honda motorcycle dealership and lives in the building with her son. She is well known among the Christians in Khon Kaen, having requested prayer from many churches, but she has never found healing and deliverance for her son.

Sensing that there might be demonic activity not only in her son but also in Mee Mali, we took some time to talk with her about how the devil can gain access to people. Ricardo read through a list of many behaviors that can give Satan a foothold, such as fortune telling, tarot cards and astrology. Mee Mali confided that she had been involved in several occult activities before becoming a Christian.

About 30 seconds after we started praying for her, Mee Mali began to cough, and then we heard a demonic laugh that sounded like a witch in a horror movie. My skin tingled. I wanted to claim Bible promises, but my mind went blank. Eventually I thought of Revelation 12:11: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.”

Since that time, we have not seen any more demonic manifestations in Mee Mali. We continue to pray with her regularly. Please join us in prayer.
