Never Give Up

I finally did it! I can’t believe I caught a fish, and it was a big one!

Here in Croatia, almost everyone knows how to fish. So I put it in my mind that I wanted to learn to fish, too.

Although I am only eight years old, I can walk alone with my friends and go fishing. So me and my friends like to walk to the sea and catch fish and see the ducks. The walk takes about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on how I get there. Sometimes, I like to take my skateboard and roll down the sidewalk to the sea, and other times, we take our time making a lot of stops to talk with friends and pick up rocks.

The first few times we went fishing, I didn’t catch anything. After a few times, I was only catching really small fish. My friends would take these fish home so their parents could make fish soup with them.

I learned fishing takes a lot of patience, so although I usually like to run around, I had to learn to sit still and wait. I had to wait until I felt a little tug on my line, and then I could pull it up and hope a fish was on the other end. It took everything I had in me to be still and wait, but I never gave up. I knew that one day I would learn to fish if I just kept trying and learning to be still.

My dad and mom tell me all the time how God calls us to be still. He sometimes asks us to wait, and if we do, the reward will be worth it. So I hope you never give up and that you learn to be still and wait when you have to.
