In the beautiful region of Biombo, Guinea-Bissau, lives Ocar, a young man from the village of Reno di Tor. Like many young people in rural areas of the country, Ocar grew up in a family that follows traditional animist beliefs. From an early age, he was taught the customs and spiritual practices of his ancestors. Although he respects his family and their traditions, Ocar began to feel that God was calling him to know the truth found in the Bible.
His journey has not been easy. Because his family does not share his new faith, Ocar has faced many challenges. At times, he has been discouraged by the lack of understanding from relatives and friends. Some people in the village have questioned his decision to study the Bible and follow Jesus Christ. Yet, despite these difficulties, Ocar has remained firm. He believes that God has a special plan for his life and that no obstacle is greater than the power of faith.
Over the past several months, our missionary team has been visiting Reno di Tor every week. During these visits, we conduct Bible studies, prayer meetings, and Portuguese classes for children, youth and adults. Ocar has become one of the most faithful participants. He attends the meetings regularly, asks thoughtful questions and demonstrates a sincere desire to understand God’s Word.
As he studied the Bible, Ocar discovered the love of Jesus and the hope of salvation. He learned that God knows every struggle and promises to give strength to those who trust in Him. Through prayer and careful study, Ocar made one of the most important decisions of his life: to prepare for baptism.
Ocar’s enthusiasm for the gospel is contagious. He does not keep his faith to himself. Instead, he actively invites his friends, classmates and neighbors to attend the meetings and participate in the Portuguese course. His joyful spirit and willingness to share what he is learning reveal his great missionary potential. We believe that God can use Ocar to reach many other young people in Reno di Tor and the surrounding villages.
We thank God for His work in Ocar’s life. Stories like his are possible because of your generous prayers and financial contributions, which enable us to travel to remote communities, offer Bible studies, and provide educational opportunities that open doors for the gospel. Please continue to pray for Ocar as he prepares for baptism, for his family to be touched by God’s love, and for the ongoing missionary work in Reno di Tor.
