Our Dream Vehicle

Do you believe dreams have meaning? In the Bible, God used dreams to communicate to prophets, nobles, peasants and slaves. In fact, God said to the prophet Joel, “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions” (Joel 2:28).

We have been shopping for a Land Cruiser to use on our project. The first one we looked at belonged to an evangelical church, but we were still raising funds, so someone else bought it. Next, we learned that a car rental agency was selling some Land Cruisers. One member of our team, Brother Joshua, used to be a car salesman, so I brought him with me to inspect the vehicles. He found that none of them were in acceptable shape.

On another car lot, we found a white Land Cruiser. It was practically new with only 54,000 miles. The dealer told us it had never been outside of Guinea. We negotiated the price down to $18,500. This was more than we had hoped to pay, because we still needed to register the vehicle, buy insurance and spare tires and do some minor service. Still, I was excited about the vehicle, so I asked our field director to wire the money, forgetting first to ask God if this was the vehicle He wanted us to buy for His work.

The money transfer was delayed at our bank for two days. During this time, Brother Joshua had a dream. In his dream we had bought the vehicle, and he was on his way to Freetown to bring the rest of the family back to Guinea. However, at the border he was arrested and charged with theft. He was told the Land Cruiser had been stolen from the government.

The next day, we went back to Conakry to get the money from the bank. As we were leaving the bank, Brother Joshua urged me to keep looking for a different vehicle, though at first he wouldn’t say why. I did not understand what he was up to, and I was a bit frustrated with him. When he finally told me the reason for his caution, I recognized God’s leading. God finally led us to a very nice four-wheel-drive Land Cruiser, which we bought.

In faith, we thank God for preventing us from buying a stolen vehicle. We also thank you for your financial support. Now we have means to move around Guinea to spread the three angels’ messages.
