“I have bad news for you,” said Katrina, our property manager, as she stepped through the door on her usual semi-annual inspection. “The landlord wants to put the house up for sale!”
This did not come as a complete surprise to us, as the landlord had requested a valuation of the property the day before. We chatted about the exorbitant property prices in the area and how a whole generation is being denied the opportunity to own their own home because of the huge deposits required and the extremely high monthly mortgage payments.
As Katrina stepped into the living room, she said, “You’ve been the best tenants of any of the properties we manage, so we will hate losing you. What will you do?”
“We will pray,” I replied without a moment’s hesitation.
The answer took her by surprise. As we moved into the next room, she asked, “So, what does Graham do?”
“He supervises church-planting projects in Europe and Central Asia,” I explained. “With the amount of traveling he does, it’s advantageous for us to be living in this area, not far from the London airports. It’s also good for me as I work at the Seventh-day Adventist Church headquarters two miles away.”
“So, you’re Christians?”
“Yes.”
She was obviously intrigued. It was unusual for her to be asking so many personal questions. “Presumably Graham gets reimbursed for his travel?”
“He does, but we have to raise the funds. His work is very much a faith ministry. We speak in churches about our work and ask for donations.”
“Wow!” she exclaimed. “Do you get many large donations? I guess in today’s economic climate people are not so ready to give?”
“The donations we receive are usually small, but they all add up to give us what we need. God has been faithful in providing for our needs.”
I could see Katrina was deep in thought. I was amazed at how God had turned a routine house inspection into an opportunity to witness for Him.
We are so grateful for the many donors who have supported us over the years and continue to do so. However, we need to expand our support team and invite individuals and churches to pledge monthly support so we can continue our work. No donation is too small! Thank you for choosing to partner with us in missions.
