Really Good Sabbaths

Over the past couple of Sabbaths, we have been inviting ladies to our home for breakfast. I share with them that it is a special day for us and that we like to set aside time for prayer and Bible reading. It has been really nice, and we have thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of the things I have loved most has been truly connecting with these ladies without rushing: just talking, getting to know each other, listening to them and seeing how the Holy Spirit was leading us into spiritual conversations from time to time. I was surprised how much one of them enjoyed the Bible verses we looked at—how they touched her heart and felt so relevant to her life.

Another lady ended up staying the whole Sabbath. She told us how different it was for her to see a family doing things together, since that is not something she is used to in her own home—everyone goes their own way. It was such a joy to show her what it looks like for a family to spend time together.

I was also really glad that one of our daughters’ friends from school came. She clearly enjoyed herself and wanted to open up, to have a safe place to talk about things that matter to her and things coming up in her life. Honestly, it felt like a really good Sabbath.

Yes, we are busy, but we are busy listening to hearts and sharing our own, telling our stories and speaking about our journeys. There is a difference between a Sabbath that is full of activities and one that actually touches people—or touches you. These have touched us. So I thank God for them, and I am hopeful that our next time together will be a blessing, too.

Please continue to pray for our Sabbath gatherings, for hearts to yield to the Holy Spirit’s call. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support.
