Spiritual Showdown

For several months, we had been praying for Sika, and now the crucial moment had come.
Sika is a twin, and in fetishism, twins are preyed upon by a special type of evil spirit. Sika came under the control of these spirits when she was very young. In her late teens, she married a Christian man named Les. Les could tell when the demon would take control of her. “She’s not by herself,” he would say. Several years later, the demon began to exert more control over her and make her behave more strangely. Soon after the birth of their third child, Sika’s mental stability deteriorated under demonic control, and she would disappear into the bush with her baby for days at a time. Les would use radio announcements to enlist people’s help in finding her.
Knowing that Les would not approve, Sika’s family would steal her away to all sorts of healers who performed various fetish sacrifices, but nothing helped. The healers said that Les’ God made their charms ineffective.
Les took Sika from church to church for prayer, but none were able to bring her deliverance. Sika is a small lady, quiet and shy by nature. She would be calm at the churches, but when she and Les got home, she would go wild, hitting him and yelling. The last time a church prayed for her, she sat quietly foaming at the mouth. Sika’s family lived with daily episodes of her talking loudly to someone no one else could see. Les could never relax because he never knew when she might attack him. She would get especially loud and violent when he was reading his Bible or praying.
One day, one of their neighbors, a member of our Adventist church, gave Les a copy of The Great Hope. He started reading it, and the next week he came to church. From then on, he became a regular attendee. Little by little, he shared what was going on at home and requested prayer for Sika. We included their household in almost all our prayers.
God put it on my heart that we should have a season of fasting followed by a special prayer session with Sika for her deliverance. I asked a church brother with experience praying for the demon-possessed to help us. We chose a day and began fasting, praying and preparing. I invited my friend Colette to join us, and also Uli Baur and Fidele.
The night before our prayer service, Sika made a lot of noise. The next morning, she said, “Today is the day.” The demons inside her knew that a showdown was imminent.
Les arrived at our church with Sika. He also brought their oldest daughter Julie who was possessed by a spirit of sorcery. Neither Sika nor Julie would look anyone in the eye, and they both behaved as if they were mentally handicapped.
We started the deliverance service with singing. Then we prayed for cleansing and protection and that Satan would be bound. I gave a quick overview of the great controversy and the power of Christ over Satan. I then asked Sika to repeat several verses about the power of Christ, expecting her demons to start making a racket at any moment. But she was able to repeat the verses successfully. Then Fidele asked her if she wanted to accept Jesus as her personal savior. He prayed, and she repeated after him, accepting Christ, repenting of her sins and breaking the ties that bound her to her “twin spirit” and any other demons. We watched and prayed. When Fidele and Sika finished praying, they sat down. Her demons were putting up less of a fight than I had expected.
Fidele then turned to Julie and led her through the same prayer. As they were praying to break the demonic ties in Jesus’ name and power, Julie collapsed on the floor as if she were dead. God prompted Colette to kneel beside her and keep praying. Fidele told Julie to get up. She tried, but she could only raise her head. I started to sing “Power in the Blood” in English, and the others joined me in French. Julie finally sat up. We all gathered around her and Sika, put our hands on their heads, and each prayed again for them.
As we left the church that evening, we could already see the difference in the eyes and faces of Sika and Julie. They could look at us directly, and their eyes shone with intelligence.
Later that night, Satan made one more attempt to reclaim his prisoners. Sika and Julie came under demonic influence and began fighting, but Sika’s son Caleb starting praying aloud, and God completed His victory over Satan and his demons.
Today, Sika and Julie are brand-new people. Sika is getting to know herself and Les all over again without the presence of demons clouding her mind. For the first time ever, she is able to sleep peacefully at night.
Please continue to pray for Sika and Julie. Praise God with us for His wonderful work and for the sacrifice of Jesus who made their freedom possible. All their friends and people from the other churches come to visit them and witness the amazing change in their lives. Their fetish-worshiping family has come to know that the God of heaven is all-powerful.
