For years Mrs. Smith had read the stories, supported the project, and vicariously lived out the experiences and trials of her favorite missionaries. Having recently received a large sum of money unexpectedly, she felt that she finally had the means to make her dream gift. However, her euphoria was short-lived. Arriving home from the doctor’s office, she could see the storm clouds gathering. Her husband had been diagnosed with dementia. The news brought a forecast of medical expenses that threatened her dream.
The future seemed cloudy as Mrs. Smith pondered what to do; she knew that these recently received funds were the only means she had to pay for her husband’s looming expenses, and she wanted to take care of him. Was there a way to meet the storms of life and still make a gift?
Upon further reflection, Mrs. Smith thought of a way to provide for her and her husband’s needs while supporting missions to the unreached. The solution was a gift through her will. By including AFM in her will, Mrs. Smith was able to plan a gift to support missions while continuing to utilize her current funds. This simple option allowed her to fulfill the desire in her heart to give a legacy gift while at the same time compassionately caring for her husband and planning for her own future.
