Last Sabbath was Valentine’s Day. Of course, mission work has very little to do with a sappy “Hallmark holiday.” But it has a lot to do with love.
Do you remember your first love? Do you remember what it was like when that extraordinary individual walked into the room—how your pulse quickened, and the air seemed to turn golden? Do you remember stealing glances as your mind whirled, grasping for some excuse to approach this person and weave the first few threads of a relationship? If you have ever felt this way about someone, then congratulations. You have grasped the essence of missions.
Missions is a romance. It has to be, because God is the Supreme Lover. Despite innumerable rebuffs, He keeps coming back, raw and vulnerable, offering humanity His perfect and perfectly breakable heart. To say that God wears His heart on His sleeve is to vastly understate His approach to our salvation.
Inspired by this amazing love, AFM missionaries go out to be matchmakers. The Gospel, in word and action, is the greatest love letter of all time, and our missionaries dedicate their lives to making sure it reaches every addressee.
As you read Adventist Frontiers, look for the budding romances pointed toward eternity—they are what we’re all about.
