Christ alone. Grace alone. Faith alone. Scripture alone. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The monk lowered his hammer and took a step back to inspect his work. It looked like just a piece of paper hanging from a nail on the door of All Saints’ Church, Wittenberg, rustling a little in the October breeze. But it was so much more than that. After hundreds of years of pagan/Christian syncretism, creeping formalism, corruption, violence and mass starvation for the Bread of Life, this piece of paper was a pardon for the condemned, a declaration of freedom from the tyranny of self-salvation, an invitation to the wedding supper of the Lamb.
Christ alone. Grace alone. Faith alone. Scripture alone. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Five hundred years later, you can still hear the hammer blows all over the world as AFM missionaries pound on the ancient doors of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, animism, and humanism, nailing up Christ’s invitation to reformation, primitive Godliness and ultimate wholeness. In a world where every other major world religion offers only the dry, grinding, dead-end path of self-salvation, Yahweh stands alone, His arms open wide, beckoning, “‘Come!’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come!’ Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life” (Rev. 22:17).
