Modern life is overscheduled. Whether it’s work, school, church or home responsibilities, it seems as though we are always running, running, running, and never catching up. How often have you wished you could do three things at once?
This past summer while driving through Virginia, I found myself going three directions at once. Near Wytheville, I realized I was driving east on Route 11 on a merged section of interstate that was also both southbound I-77 and northbound I-81!
Humans aren’t very good at multitasking, but Jesus sure is. Take the story of the paralytic in Luke 5 for example. Christ was busily teaching a packed house when the ceiling opened above Him, and down came a man on a stretcher. Jesus could have said, “Sorry, I’m just too busy right now. I’m overscheduled.” Instead, He performed a triple-header miracle that day—healing the man’s spirit and body and demonstrating to the amazed crowd that God is never too busy to rescue a hurting soul from the ravages of sin.
It’s not easy to do three things at once and do them well. However, I would like to tell you about just such an opportunity in planned giving. It’s called a charitable lead trust. Funds transferred into such a trust do three very valuable things: 1) They give you an immediate tax deduction. 2) They generate income that helps AFM missionaries reach the unreached. 3) At the end of the term of the trust, the principle is returned to you or your heirs with little or no estate-tax liability. A trifecta of blessing!
