Her voice seemed hesitant as she posed the question over the phone, “I was wondering if you could support me for the Pathfinder bike-a-thon?”
“Of course, my husband and I would be delighted to help you.”
You could almost visibly see her sigh of relief. “Really, thank you so much!” Her voice was excited and joyous. And I was happy to help this lovely young lady who gives so much to Jesus.
Think of the last time you gave. Didn’t it make you happy inside? I believe that’s because “We are most like God when we are giving!” 1And I imagine it pleases Him when He sees His children giving—thanks, forgiveness, kindness, time, energy, resources.
Sadly, our world seems to be riding a one-way road to destruction, everyone selfishly intent on getting all they can of the perishable things of this life. Those pursuing this route make life miserable for all who stand in their way. Christianity offers a better destination that can help our lives, even now. The way to eternal life has been paid by our Savior. As a love response back to Him, we give. And in that giving we find pure joy!
Sister White predicts that when prompted by the love of Christ, “our happiness will then be proportionate to our unselfish works.” She even describes pure joy as being found “where contentment reigns and where self-sacrificing love is the ruling principle.” (3T382)
Give and find pure joy.
