Adventist Frontier Missions has an exciting new mission opportunity. Recently, a church leader in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region contacted us about sending missionaries to one of the largest and most influential urban areas in the region. The leader shared that he is seeing effort and funds poured into this Muslim stronghold to invest in effective evangelism.
Ministry in Muslim nations, where open evangelism is not an option, is highly complex and risky due to strict laws against proselytizing. Christians are viewed with suspicion. Yet missionaries do share the gospel under these constraints.
We are looking for at least two families willing to devote 8-10 years to this project. These families will work with existing personnel already engaged in frontline service. Their first task will be to learn the native language and engage in focused culture study. During this time, they will also build relationships with locals to understand the community’s needs better. From the time spent in language learning and culture study, a mission strategy will begin to emerge. To stay in the country long-term, they will need to obtain an appropriate visa. Possible paths to a viable visa will include starting a business, enrolling as a student at a local university or finding employment, such as teaching English.
According to estimates, there is only one Christian missionary for every 400,000 to 1,000,000 Muslims. Let that sink in for a moment. That would be like the current population of Vermont and Wyoming being Muslim and having only one Christian worker trying to reach both states by themselves! While that may seem unfathomable to us, it is a reality in many countries.
