Jonathan & Veronica Nicholaides

Career Missionaries since 2013, serving the Hill Tribes of Ratanakiri Province, Cambodia. They previously served among the Pnong.

A little more than eight years ago, God called the Nicholaides family to work for Him in the Asian country of Cambodia. After God provided the funding they needed, Jonathan and Veronica boarded an airplane with their four children, Hannah, Bethany, Enoch and Josiah. For the first four years, they served with the Great River People.

Previously living in the province of Mondulkiri, a lovely mountainous area on the northeastern side of Cambodia, they moved to the Hill Tribe people group in Northeastern Cambodia.

The Hill Tribe people are animists who live in fear and bondage to the spirits, and yet they worship them at the same time. At weddings, funerals, planting time, harvest time, or any other momentous occasion, they perform rituals, such as animal sacrifices, in an effort to appease the spirits and avoid calamity. It is sad to see people living in fear. Those who have accepted Jesus don’t suddenly become rich and have easy lives, but their newfound joy and peace are a powerful witness to their families and communities.

The whole family is involved in friendship evangelism, connecting all the people around, including neighbors, school staff, and villagers to develop relationships that give local people opportunities to see Christ’s love. The local school staff are a wonderful group of dedicated Christians who want to share Jesus in the community, too. We are privileged to witness the love and freedom that people who once lived in darkness experience through their newfound faith in Jesus.

Let Your Light Shine

No SM is perfect, but their witness can have a powerful effect on missionary kids. If you are an SM or want to be one, please remember that when you let Jesus shine through you, it will affect more than just the people group you go to serve.

The Wall

God used this experience not only to encourage Henry to be kind to his classmates but also to encourage our school staff when we were facing some difficulties. We praise God for His protection and for giving just the right encouragement at a time we really needed it.

Tommy

I don’t know what he will decide as he grows. We are still praying for him. You can put him on your prayer list, too.

Jym’s Testimony

Working for God is what I really want. Maybe someday I will even be a church planter. But whatever I do, I want to be serving God.

Fenced In

How many times has God gone to great trouble to fix fences for us, and we aren’t even aware of His precautions? How often has He protected us from our enemy’s invasions when we didn’t have any idea of what He was doing?
