Sean & Brenda Mays

Career Missionaries since 2006, serving the Shqiptaret Muslims of Albania.

Sean and Brenda met at a U.S. Air Force base in Germany and were married two years later. They became Seventh-day Adventist Christians six years after that. Missions was on their hearts from the start. Evenings with their two daughters were often spent reading mission stories aloud.

Sean and Brenda and their daughters Megan and Moriah were called to Albania individually and together through a series of providential events. They all prayed for the people of Albania for over two years before they moved there with AFM to serve the people God had placed on their hearts.

Sean and Brenda have enjoyed serving the Albanian people since early 2006 and have been blessed to be part of a growing fellowship of Adventist believers in an area where there were none before. Additionally, they serve as AFM field directors for the Balkans, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Frontier Stories

Our Prayer Warrior

My grateful tears flowed freely as I hung up the phone last night. God had used Anila, a prayer warrior in the States and a stranger to me, to show me His boundless care.

Sometimes we hear stories of how God impresses people to pray very specifically without knowing any details of a situation. When we see how on-target their prayers were, our faith is greatly strengthened. God does speak to hearts when He knows they will listen.

The Border Crossing

A few days later, as I began my trip home, the weather was getting worse. I dreaded the long, treacherous drive through the ice and snow. As I approached the border in the early-morning darkness, I hoped for a quick crossing. My hopes sank when I saw the long line of cars at a standstill.

New Year

The New Year celebration is a huge event in Albania. In the weeks leading up to the New Year, the borders are jammed with Albanians coming home to spend time with their families. Traditional Albanian foods for New Year’s Day resemble America’s Thanksgiving fare.

Darkness before Dawn

The spiritual darkness here is agonizingly deep—a seemingly endless black hole of despair. When we dwell on it, we are tempted to yield to the hopelessness that is never far from people’s lives. It continually chases them, nipping at their heels like a hungry wolf, tearing at their dreams of something better.
