During a recent 21-day season of prayer and fasting, Ricky, a friend I have known for eight years, decided that he was going to follow Jesus! I had always felt that Ricky was close to making a decision for God, but the breakthrough came from prayer and fasting.
As I sat on Ricky’s couch and talked with him, I sensed the Holy Spirit’s presence. After shooting the breeze for a few minutes, I felt impressed to ask him how things were going with him and God. He immediately started to share how he had been drug-free for several months, and that he hoped he could find God. I shared about the simplicity of the Gospel in Jesus. Then I talked about some of the precious promises of Jesus’ return and the exciting future that awaits those who place their hope in Jesus. “I sure hope all of that is true,” Ricky said, “because I have decided to make a change in my life and to live for God.” After praying with him, I was blessed to see his face light up with new joy and hope.
A short time later, God provided Ricky with an iPod loaded with a Bible that reads to you as you follow along. This was an immense blessing, as Ricky struggles to read.
Please pray that Ricky will find Jesus and walk with Him every day. As I consider what God is doing in Ricky’s life, I get even more excited about reaching the Great River People. How awesome it will be to watch God work in a people group that has had little opportunity to know Him! Please pray that God will continue to prepare us to be effective soul winners for Him.
