A Rough Landing

“What’s happening?” cried a terrified young lady. Our plane was just about to land when it suddenly climbed steeply, and we heard the landing gear retracting. There was an air of tension in the cabin, and my heart was racing.

As usual, I had been praying for a safe landing as we approached the airport. Seeing the panic on the young lady’s face, I prayed that God’s peace would minister to her and the many others who were fearful. A fellow passenger tried to reassure her, but she was still very agitated.

After several minutes, the pilot spoke over the intercom, explaining that strong winds had suddenly changed in direction causing him to abort the landing. We would now be approaching the runway from a different direction. Some tense moments followed, and there was an audible sigh of relief as we finally landed safely.

Winds buffeted our aircraft as it parked at the gate. The young lady and her sister, still shaken, were anxious to get off the plane as quickly as possible. “I really thought my end had come!” the sister said to me, her eyes wide.

I thought of the many in her country who live so much of their lives in fear, unaware that there is Someone who wants to give them His peace, an abundant life and a wonderful future. Please pray that the Irish people will come to experience the “peace of God, which transcends all understanding” so it “will guard [their] hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7).
