A Street Sermon

“Jesus is my wingman. Jesus is my wingman.” the words echoed through the deserted streets. We followed the song to an open area in the middle of a shopping complex surrounded by businesses and apartments. We found a group of young people standing one and a half meters apart. This is the rule during lockdown. No one is allowed to get closer.

We listened as they repeated the song a few times, and then a young man stepped forward. His message was strong: Repent, follow Jesus or go to hell. Each member of the group used their opportunity to call people to Jesus, and then the group prayed together.

I suggested to James that we look for an opportunity to tell them about Daniel and Revelation. Not long after the prayer, a young man and woman noticed our interest and approached us. We introduced ourselves and told them that we were transit passengers stranded in their country. We thanked them for their positive example during lockdown. We asked them if they knew that the statue in Daniel represented historical events. They didn’t, so we were able to explain the importance of studying Daniel and how it connects with Revelation. We talked about the three angels’ messages and the call to fear God the Creator, and then we explained the Sabbath and why worship is important to God, illustrated in the story of Cain and Abel. The rest of the group were a few meters away from us but they could hear everything we were saying. The young man understood the state of the dead, and they both promised us that they would continue studying the Bible for themselves, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to them as they seek God earnestly.

We walked away from this experience with a new understanding of why we had been stranded in this country. God had a plan, and He had positioned us to plant a seed. These young people love God, and they are committed to serving Him. We hope to see them, if not on earth, under the Tree of Life in heaven.
