A Trustworthy Mechanic

Our car mechanic’s name is Cassimiro. We found him by word of mouth. But to be honest, we prayed for a trustworthy mechanic long before we needed one. So God helped us find him.

Getting our car’s oil changed in Mozambique is different from what we are familiar with in the USA. In Mozambique, we are expected to purchase the motor oil and oil filter in town before going to the mechanic. There are many sellers on the streets eager to sell automotive supplies. We ignorantly bought the first motor oil and filter we could find that sounded like it fit the description of our Toyota Prato. But when we went to see Cassimiro, he told us that a 5-liter jug of oil was not enough and the oil filter was the wrong size. So, back to town we went to get another jug of motor oil and the correct size oil filter. When we returned, Cassimiro told us that we had been sold a fake oil filter. He showed us how to identify a genuine from a fake by carefully examining the detail of the brand’s logo and feeling the filter paper’s quality. He then left his garage and accompanied us to town to show us where to buy genuine car parts.

Last week, Cassimiro went with us to town again to find a replacement battery for our car. However, when he went to install the new larger battery, he discovered the car’s cables were too short to reach the terminals. No problem. He soldered longer cables into place using a homemade soldering iron connected to the battery. He did all this without expecting payment.

As we develop our friendship with Cassimiro, please pray that he will allow us to guide him from his religion to the genuine plan of salvation.
