But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matt. 6:33).
My parents sent this verse to me after I told them I was struggling with homesickness and motivation here in Palawan. I missed the life I had left in the States with its conveniences, close friends and a language I could speak. I was struggling to focus on the work the Lord had called me to do.
But, as the verse promised, the Lord added into my life all the things I needed. His Word reminded me to put my faith in Him. Trusting Him has allowed me to focus on my mission—to share the love of Jesus Christ for the Palawano people through my actions, words and gifts.
Reading those words of encouragement really hit home for me, and it reminded me that my life is in the Lord’s hands, and I have no reason to fear, worry or be sad. Don’t get me wrong, there are still hard days when I miss home or struggle to understand even the most basic Palawano words. But I know the Lord is with me. He is taking care of me and showing me His love and His plan for me.
The Lord will take care of you, too, and He will use you to bring blessings if you will let Him. It is hard at first to step out in faith, but I have learned that the Lord will never give you more than you can bear, and He will bless you for your work.
I have been in the mountains of Palawan for nearly five months now, and the Lord has blessed me so much. I am learning the language, visiting people and teaching my students. I often read Matthew 6:33 and take fresh courage that the Lord keeps His promises. He certainly has for me, and He will for you, too.
