Last Friday afternoon, a man came to our door to inform us that two families were asking for prayer at the May River clinic.

The clinic has two beds where very sick people can stay the night. After praying with the first family, we went to the other room and found 19-year-old Angeline lying paralyzed on her bed. Angeline’s husband told us that his second wife of only four months had gotten sick very suddenly. She’d had a fever, and soon she couldn’t feel her extremities. He carried her to the clinic where she was diagnosed with Polio and given an IV drip. When we met, she had been in treatment for two days. Her left side was responding to the medication, but her right arm and leg were not. The nurse wasn’t confident that Angeline would ever be able to use her right side again.

Angeline was scared, and we were worried, too. Disabled people tend to be neglected here. Also, her role as second wife is to prepare food for the entire family. She certainly wouldn’t be doing that anytime soon.

We knelt down and prayed for Angeline. Then we explained to the family that sometimes God heals people, and sometimes He doesn’t, according to what He knows is best. We asked the family, including wife number one, if they believed in Jesus and had faith in His ability to heal Angeline. They said they knew Jesus could heal.

On Sabbath morning we prayed again with Angeline before going to church. David preached the sermon, and the members prayed for Angeline and the other sick people.

On Sabbath afternoon I went to see Angeline. She could move her right hand a little bit! On Sunday morning, I found that she could move her right leg. With her right hand, she shook mine!

Soon Angeline and her family left the clinic, rejoicing that the Lord had heard our prayers. They asked us to pray in their home next time we visit their village, and we certainly will.
