Bingi’s Journey

Bingi soared through the heavens in the big yellow helicopter of our friends from PAMAS. Birdseye views of mountain forests, coconut and banana trees, and beautiful rice fields washed over his senses as this barefoot young man from deep in the jungle traveled faster and higher than he ever had in his life. New sights and sounds greeted him as he landed—concrete buildings, vehicles, and people wearing odd masks. I helped him put a mask on as we prepared to go through the COVID screening at the hospital before we could see a doctor for his injured, infected hand. After the doctor examined him, he was admitted and placed on IV antibiotics. Together with his brother who had accompanied him, I prayed for Bingi.

God blessed Bingi’s healing, and soon he was released to our Mountain View Farm to continue his recovery. I was happy when he and his brother joined us on the large bamboo porch where we gather for morning worship.

Naphtali, a missionary teacher, was visiting the farm during Thanksgiving break. Seeing Bingi and his brother there, he shared the story of salvation with them—perhaps the first time they had heard the greatest story ever told. As Bingi’s hand healed, he and his brother worked on the farm to earn some money. With dozens of other workers, they cut the ripened rice and brought in the harvest. I am so thankful for God’s healing in Bingi’s life and the chance He gave us to share some of the love and knowledge of Jesus with him.

The book of Revelation speaks of a harvest. The intensifying signs of the times testify that we are hastening toward that final harvest. “And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped” (Rev. 14:14-15). I pray that Bingi and many other Palawanos will be gathered up to Jesus in the clouds to forever be with the Lord.
