Brother Shin

Recently, upon exiting the cafeteria at Sahmyook University in Seoul, South Korea, I realized Arnold was not with me. When I looked back inside, I saw him kneel with a young man and pray.

“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit” (John 3:8).

The Holy Spirit had clearly led Arnold to Brother Shin that evening. Not only did it allow him to pray with this young man about his atheist father and nominal Christian mother, but it also formed a friendship that we pray continues through eternity.

At 26 years old, Brother Shin is older than most of his theology classmates. He had served the mandatory two years in the military and, during that time, became acquainted with the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church through a medic. After giving his life to Jesus and being baptized, he went away for a year of mission service before starting his studies to become a pastor. His girlfriend, a 23-year-old SDA pastor’s daughter who has already graduated, is studying the Bible with Brother Shin’s youngest sister. We spent much time praying together over his family and his desire for them to come to know Jesus.

Our interactions were never planned; however, we saw God orchestrating them, especially as this young brother needed encouragement over his family dynamics and their prejudices against him being an SDA believer.

Is God nudging you toward someone today? Do not delay in obeying, as you may be the answer to their prayer.

As teammates with us on this journey to reach the unreached, you are the answer to our prayers. Stay faithful. Jesus is coming very soon!
