Cambodia at Last

“Just think! No more snow! No more getting stuck or mending the mailbox that the snowplow routinely knocks over. No more freezing.” Philip and I often share these thoughts as we look toward our escape from the snow.

God must have a sense of humor. On October 11, a couple days before we were to leave our house for the last time, it snowed! We got six inches, and the first snowplow to come through knocked over our mailbox. Not only that, as we headed out for my parents’ place, it was like a blizzard, and we got stuck. We were sure we would never make it to my parents’ place in Minnesota, especially as we headed north and over into Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. But to our amazement, just over the Mackinac Bridge about twenty minutes from our house, the grass was green and there was no snow in sight! It seemed as though a little snow cloud had been sent to hang right over our county.

Over and over, God has shown us that He is at the steering wheel of our lives. Our house didn’t sell when we expected or for the price we had planned, and we didn’t leave for Cambodia on the date we thought we should. I could almost see God’s eyes twinkle as He sprinkled a last bit of snow on us, just to remind us that He is still the one in control.

Praise God, by the time you read this, we will have left the snow behind and begun our new adventure in Cambodia! Thanks to each of you who prayed for the sale of our house. God answered your prayers in His time, and our house sold on October 19. Without our team, without your prayers and support, we wouldn’t be at this milestone.

Please continue to pray for the Great River people that the soil of their hearts will be prepared to receive seeds of truth. Also pray that God will gift us with the ability to learn language quickly. It seems rather daunting to learn two languages, but we take comfort in the promise that His strength is made perfect in our weakness; His calling is His enabling!
