Comforted by a Song

I must tell Jesus all of my trials; I cannot bear these burdens alone,

In my distress He kindly will help me, He ever loves and cares for His own.

The words of the much-loved hymn sung by our Kewa church members floated through the sanctuary as four young ladies led the singing during the Sabbath School program. Their voices were strong as they sang, but then I noticed a drop in the volume. Looking up from my hymnal, I realized Sarah had stopped singing. Her head was bowed, and large teardrops were falling to the floor. Oh no! I thought. What is wrong with Sarah? I watched her as she went to sit down after the song finished. Her tears had stopped, and she quietly listened to the program.

When we divided up for the lesson study, I walked over to Sarah. Putting my arm around her shoulder, I asked, “Are you alright?”

Her reply saddened me but at the same time brought joy to my heart. “My husband was cross with me this morning, and it hurt my feelings. But the hymn brought me comfort that Jesus is there to help me. I love that hymn and always remember it when times are difficult.”

I’m thankful that Sarah has found a friend in Jesus and takes comfort in knowing that she can tell Him all of her troubles, because He is her kind, compassionate Friend.
