Conviction

I scanned the congregation as I made a call for those who wanted to choose to follow Jesus to raise their hands. My eyes fell on the face of one lady that seemed to shine radiantly.

She and her husband started attending our church only a few weeks ago. “They are new interests who used to come to church when we had it at our house,” Galuma explained on the first Sabbath they showed up, “but it’s a bit farther for them to come here. That’s why they haven’t been coming.”

Most of our 60+ church attendees are not baptized members. This particular Sabbath, I presented the second part in a series on the Ten Commandments. After the service, I made my customary rounds to shake people’s hands. When I got to the woman with the beaming face, she had tears in her eyes. She managed to choke out, “I sense the Holy Spirit is speaking to my heart.” In our Western culture, we don’t usually consider “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image” as a message that would bring tears to one’s eyes, but something in the message had obviously struck a chord in her heart.

That day, we decided to start a weekly Bible class on Tuesday mornings for those who are interested, like this Gogodala woman from Kewa. Please pray for God’s guidance in these classes.
