Do You Love God?

How do we know that God is real? Sometimes, the answer comes not through arguments or explanations, but through simple moments of faith. The Bible tells us that God has made Himself known through what He has created.

“For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made” (Romans 1:20a WEB).

After I finished praying before a program rehearsal at our learning center, Kham came to me and said, “Teacher, you forgot to pray for my grandma.”

That day, his grandma was not feeling well and could not join our Bible class.

“I am sorry, Kham. If you would like, I can pray for her right now. Shall I?”

“Yes,” he said.

So I prayed for his grandma, asking God to heal her and let His love be with their family.

After practice, Kham and Thawng, his brother, went home with me because we live in the same direction. Kham rode his bicycle, I rode my motorbike, and Thawng sat behind me. The stars in the sky were very beautiful that night.

On the way home, Thawng said, “Teacher, you forgot to pray for my grandma.”

I explained that I had already prayed with Kham, but Thawng was not there at that time. I asked him if he wanted me to pray with him, and he said yes. So we prayed together once more for their grandma.

After that, I asked Thawng whether he knew that praying is talking to God and whether he believed that God is real. Thawng answered, “I believe God is real, because if God is not real, who created the world?”

I confirmed his belief that God is real and that God loves him.

“Thawng, do you love God?” I asked.

“Yes!”

Remembering that Thawng once said that he hated his brother, I said, “I love you, too, Thawng. And God wants you and Kham to love your grandma and each other.”

That night, though, Thawng said, “I love Kham.”

“Love is a choice,” I explained, “just like I choose to love you, and God chooses to love all of us. Even when we do not treat each other well sometimes, we are still family. God would be sad if we hurt one another.”

Since that day, whenever I have the chance, I tell Kham and Thawng that I love them, and I remind them that God loves them and wants them to be happy. This experience made me deeply thankful to God that I can be part of their lives, to show God’s love, to pray for them, and to help them know they are valuable and God’s precious gifts.

I pray that many children and families here in northeast Thailand who do not yet know God will have the opportunity to receive love and understanding, and to see God through our lives.

“No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us” (1 John 4:12 WEB).
