Dust, dust, dust. No way to avoid it. It is everywhere, even veiling the sun. You mop the floor, and a few hours later you’re leaving footprints in the dust again. It is now Harmattan in Benin, the dry season during which the wind blows in from the desert, carrying tons of fine dust. Eventually I get used to a certain amount of dust, but I never give up battling it with my broom and mop.
Sin is kind of like dust. It just comes, and we can’t entirely avoid it. No matter how hard we try, there will always be sin in our lives to some extent. But should we ever give up fighting it and just let it pile up in our hearts? No! Every time we see sin in our lives, we need to call the Master Cleaner who never gets tired of washing us clean. Just as we keep doors and windows closed as much as possible during Harmattan to keep the dust out, we need to guard our spiritual and mental windows and doors to keep sin out as best as we can.
Let’s do our best to keep sin out of our hearts, and when we fail, let’s quickly ask God to clean us. He is just waiting for us to call on Him!
