Peter. Miriam. Isaiah. Esther. Saul of Tarsus. The Israelites in the wilderness.

Ever find yourself reading the Bible and saying, “That’s me!” when you come across a story? I do. Good or bad, some of their stories reflect my life. Herein is one of the most incredible aspects of the Bible—we can find our story in it and look for where God’s grace appears in their story and ours.

For many of us, our story involves the Holy Spirit’s leading before we ever recognize it is Him, only to meet Jesus later and, upon reflection, discover all the ways He had guided and cared for us—and how many people He put in our path—while trying to get our attention.

“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes” (John 3:8a).

I imagine Nicodemus might have recognized his story when studying Moses and the prophets. His story seems to present a character that was always interested in reflecting God’s . . . and still he thirsted for something more. God graciously led him to the one true Thirst-Quencher and their lives intersected. Later, after his interview with Jesus, time spent following His ministry, and devotion of his life to the Way, he likely understood how God had led in his life.
