Sun was the toughest of rascals. Hardened by a life of crime, he was accustomed to the unruly scoundrels of the infamous Daru prison where he resided for some time. As a Gogodala whose family moved to Daru when he was young, Sun was exposed to more outside influences than his counterparts living in the Aramia River region. After his release from prison, he returned to his father’s village to escape the authorities and seek a better life. One day his friend, who was not a Seventh-day Adventist, invited him to go to the Adventist church in Kotale with him, where I made his acquaintance. Sun began taking Bible studies and eventually gave his heart to Jesus and was baptized.
When I needed help building our house, Sun became one of my most faithful workers. He rarely missed a day. Then one day, he had a skirmish with some relatives and ran away. I missed his quiet, faithful support. Six months went by, and nobody knew where he was. I became concerned that he might have slipped back to his old ways. We prayed for him, and he returned. Overjoyed to see him again, I asked where he had gone. It turned out he had been assisting an invalid in a neighboring village. What a relief! He had remained faithful to his Lord.
