When God delays us, He has a reason, and we mustn’t forget to watch for blessings along the way.
We were waiting for a cargo ship to send our supplies to Balimo when Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla made a two-day visit to Port Moresby. As the date for their arrival drew near, we learned that the royal couple would be visiting a park across the road from Pacific Adventist University (PAU) where we were staying. A friend told us the PAU choir would be singing for the event and suggested we follow the choir into the park on Sunday morning. That would be our best chance of seeing the royal guests. Strolling into the park two hours before the royal entourage, we lingered with the choir and listened to them practice while fancily dressed people arrived and waiters roamed the lawn with trays of drinks and snacks. If it weren’t for the familiar faces of our PAU friends, we would have felt very out of place. Finally, a crowd of secret service personnel and press started pouring through the gate. Laurie and Johanna moved forward to get pictures. Suddenly, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla were standing right between them! Camilla said to Laurie, “Hot weather here, isn’t it?” The prince turned to Johanna and asked, “Are you staying here?” When Prince Charles learned that we were missionaries, he reached through the crowd to shake my hand. Wow!
What will it be like to hear Jesus, the King of Kings, say to you, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant?” Infinitely more amazing!
