Finding a Mechanic

I was in Cotonou on business, and my truck’s steering started acting up. “Lord,” I prayed, “how am I going to find a mechanic in this huge city?” I asked the director of the Baptist mission, and he told me of a good one not far from where I was staying.

That evening, I went looking for the mechanic. It was a dirty road beside the railroad tracks, and it looked like a rough part of town. I had more than $1,000 in my pocket, and I felt quite uncomfortable as I drove. I prayed God would protect me.

I found a mechanic shop, but the mechanic didn’t know of the director or even the Baptist mission. I continued on and ended up on a paved road again without seeing another mechanic shop.

Next, I decided to try a mechanic I had used several years before. When I got there, I found a different business in the building. I talked with the secretary, and she gave me the address of another mechanic in a part of town I know. I followed her directions but didn’t find the mechanic. Driving around the area, I found another mechanic. He turned out to be a very nice French guy. He took a look at my truck’s steering and made an appointment for the next day. He got right to work the next morning and was able to find parts and fix the problem in only a day and a half. He also helped me find some new tires I needed. He told me he does lots of work for missionaries. Praise the Lord for guiding me to a good mechanic!
