Friday Help

Answering a knock at the door, I was shocked to find Grandma. “Reporting for duty,” she said, saluting. I stared at her in overwhelmed amazement.

Just the night before, I had been praying to God that I couldn’t endure another Friday of stressful preparations. The last several Fridays I had been driven nearly to tears with an overwhelming amount of work. I told the Lord, “I can’t do this again. I really need Your help.” I felt peace come over me, and I knew He would answer somehow.

But I hadn’t expected Him to send Grandma over! She knew nothing of my prayer, but she had felt impressed that I needed help that day. At the time, I was still a new Christian, and that experience greatly strengthened my faith. I still cherish it to this day.

We are nearing the end of earth’s history. Sundown is approaching, and there is lots of work yet to do. Can you hear God calling to your heart, “Will you go and work for me today?”

Isobel Kuhn once said, “I believe that in each generation God has called enough men and women to evangelize all the yet unreached tribes of the earth. It is not God who does not call. It is man who will not respond!”

We are all called to reach the unreached, whether through going or giving. How will you respond?

What if Grandma hadn’t responded to the Spirit? I would have missed out on a wonderful, faith-building experience. What if we don’t respond to the Spirit for the needs of the unreached? Another generation of unreached people gone for eternity.
