When I was a young girl, listening to the stories my grandmother shared with me—stories often about our family and the experiences that shaped their lives—a profound love of history was born within me and continues to this day. One of my favorite stories was about her father, my great-grandfather, whose life was marked by travel, faith and service.
My great-grandfather was born in Jamaica around 1900. As a young man, he traveled to several countries, including Panama and Cuba. During his time abroad, he was introduced to the Seventh-day Adventist message. This experience changed his life and would shape his path. When he returned to Jamaica, he shared his faith with his family. My grandmother became one of his first converts.
His dedication to sharing his beliefs did not stop with his family. My great-grandfather later served as a lay minister in St. Catherine, Jamaica. Through his ministry, he helped establish several Seventh-day Adventist churches, including those in Mendes, Ducees and Point Hill, Jamaica. His faith and commitment helped strengthen his community and left a lasting legacy.
Hearing these stories as I was growing up deeply influenced me. They showed me how one person’s willingness to serve God can impact many lives. Because of his example, my family and I are preparing to serve as missionaries in Japan.
As we prepare, we are still seeking individuals willing to partner with us through prayer and monthly financial support, without which, we would be unable to share God’s love. We are grateful for your partnership. Thank you.
