“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest” (Prov. 6:6-8). The ant is an amazing insect! As I sat down outside to write, I had some fresh inspiration, being bitten by one, while others scurried across my paper and my pants. So diligently do they work that I wondered if they ever slept. I looked into it and learned that they do sleep, taking short naps and then getting right back to work, day and night. Searching high and low for food, they cover the earth.

What if we applied this lesson of diligence in Jesus’ service? It would make us like Jesus because it is only through His indwelling Holy Spirit that we can be diligent or do anything good (Prov. 30:24, John 15:4-5).

Ants work together, and they are amazing evangelists. If they taste and see that something is good, they tell all the other ants they meet, bringing throngs to partake with them. If only all of God’s people would be like ants! We would spread out all over the earth through the power of the Holy Spirit, telling the precious lost, hungry and perishing people of earth, “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him” (Ps. 34:8).
