“Sœur Suzy, can you help us figure out how to find good wives?” “Please pray for a good wife for me.” “How do we know who is a good wife for us?” These are some of the many requests I have been getting in the past year or so from several of the young men in the church. Since I am older than they are, they look up to me as an elder sister. In response to their questions, I did an in-depth Bible study so I could give them a biblical basis for their search, and I wrote them a little booklet.
Theory is great, but, alas, in the Natitingou area and the northern part of Benin, godly young Adventist women are lacking. This is not just a small problem. What are the young Adventist men to do when there are not many young women in the church? There are lots of young Adventist women in the southern part of Benin, but few wish to live up here in the North.
We have discussed the problem of few young women in the church many times, trying to get to the bottom of it. Many girls think that religion and church attendance will curb their freedom to dress in a worldly manner, and they don’t see much value in the beauty that comes from the heart. What’s more, most of the girls must do the laundry, kitchen work, and other household chores Sabbath mornings. They are not always free to go to church like the boys are. So we continue to pray for “les bonnes femmes,” good wives for our church brothers. Will you pray with us?
