God’s Gift to Me

Do you believe God cares about our desires, even the frivolous ones? I know He does!

For quite some time, I had wanted a table-tennis table. Table tennis is one of the few sports I enjoy. When a friend of ours, a French volunteer, gave us paddles, a net and balls, the only little detail missing was the table. I looked at a table in a store in Cotonou. The price was about $850—never mind! Then we thought about making one from concrete. Still quite expensive and impractical, since we wanted a table that could be stored away. So we dismissed the thought.

Weeks later, the need came up for a blackboard for the church. Toussaint contacted a friend who sells plywood he reclaims from old crates and containers. This friend brought us a bunch of different boards, but nothing fit our need for a blackboard. Too big, too many holes, too heavy, too expensive. But then Toussaint looked at two nice big boards of the same size and said to me, “Go get me the measurements for a table-tennis table.” It turned out that the two pieces put together were almost exactly the right size! Later, our welder came over, and we discussed making the frame and table legs. I was so excited!

Today we have a transportable table tennis table that cost us $50. What a gift from God, and what a sign of His love for us! He cares for us more than we can ever imagine.
