“So God created man in His own image.” These words have echoed in my heart over the last few weeks. It is awesome to think that, in man, God would place unique attributes of Himself so that we can beautifully reflect His character. God originally made the family to be a place where love would flow from Himself to the parents, and from parents to the children, revealing how His family in heaven operates. With the arrival of sin, instead of God’s love being revealed in the family, selfishness has taken the throne. I think of all the broken homes that continue to add links to the chain of sin, and how sorrowful God must feel when He sees all the brokenness.
Recently, I had the opportunity to pray with one of the residents at the nursing home where I work as an LPN. This woman has lung issues because her husband smoked in their house for years. She was feeling low because her brother and her son had taken some property from her under the guise of helping her, leaving her with nothing of her own. I sympathized with her and encouraged her that, although the situation was sad, at least everything here on earth is temporary. I so enjoyed watching her face light up as we talked about the beautiful promise of Jesus’ return and the heavenly homes that will be ours for eternity. As I think of the Great River People of Cambodia and how God wants to restore them to His image, I long to help free them from the dead system of earning merit with Allah, and to connect them to Jesus, the Lover of their souls!
