Hallelujah is a strange word.
Sometimes it is used as praise coming from a heart overflowing with love and joy such as when David said “Hallelujah! O my soul, praise God! All my life long I’ll praise God, singing songs to my God as long as I live. “ Ps 146:1,2
Other times its used in triumph such as when God will finally triumph over Babylon in the book of Revelation: “Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns.” Revelation 19:6
Then it is used as an affirmation and the emotions can go either way. It can be used as an act of submission where we acknowledge that God knows better and we trust it will all be right in the end. Such as when something comes to an end and through the bittersweet tears all one can do is say “Hallelujah.”
So my time here in Cambodia has come to an end. I leave for the airport in 15 minutes. There are tears and there are smiles, but through it all I can say “Hallelujah. God is faithful. I will come back someday.”
The End
