Happy To Give

Edie and I have been welcomed as honored guests here at the Sepik Mission headquarters. The president has invited us to travel with him on Sabbaths. We visited Nagum High School about an hour from town and witnessed the baptism of nine people, including some of the teachers. Twenty-six more students responded to the call to prepare for baptism. The next week we visited a rural church and witnessed another group of six get baptized in the river.

On another Sabbath we attended a large church of several hundred in the city of Wewak. At the end of Sabbath School, they left time for each of the teachers to report to the church about how many church members were present for each class, how many had studied their lessons daily, how many non-Adventists were present, how much offering came in and how much had been received for the 13th Sabbath project. Each class had a self-appointed goal of 200-300 Kina for the quarterly mission project.

Many of the church ladies sit long hours each day selling garden produce in the local market to earn two or three Kina. This is all the money they have to purchase food and clothes for their children. Still they set money aside for missions in other countries. Their gifts totaled more than 7,000 Kina.

(1 Kina = 36 cents). I was shocked! Then I felt humbled by their dedication. These people know how to give sacrificially for missions. You should have heard the happiness of the teachers as each reported that their class had reached its goal.

I am so touched by the story of Ama people.  I have been following it all the way from the Lello family.  I am so glad you answered the call to go and harvest for the Lord.  We are praying and will suppport you anyway we can.  May God bless you and your family
